Westphalian half-timbered buildings make Offelten a very special place.

All lovers of Westphalian half-timbered architecture and rural folklore will get their money's worth in Offelten. The village offers a picture of a farming village in Westphalia that has grown over centuries and changed only little.
The village was first mentioned in a document with the name "Oflethen" in an undated document of the bishop Thietmar von Minden (1185-1206).
The place name is traced back to the ending "lith", which is understood to mean "mountain side". Thus Offelten also lies to the east of Preußisch Oldendorf directly on the mountain slope of the Wiehengebirge.
The former more than 40 farms were grouped along the Offelten brook, which still forms the settlement line of the village today.
